Instant Google
Today I received a phone call from a very uniformed salesperson trying to sell me a service called "Instant Google". Firstly, as Google points out, you should be very wary of anyone who cold calls selling internet marketing services. Anyway, the crux of the pitch was that for a fixed price £25 I could buy any keyphrase of my choice for a month which will be placed above Google’s organic results, hence the name Instant Google.
That's Not PPC... That's Instant Google
By way of proof I was asked to Google the term “Instant Google” which I did. The salesperson pointed out the sponsored link at the top of the page entitled “Put your business here”. “That’s a PPC add” I told her. I was informed it was nothing to do with PPC that it was in fact “Instant Google” and that for £25 per month I could buy any keyphrase I wished and put it right there above the organic results.
As It Stands Instant Google Sounds Like An Out and Out Scam
If there was a working Instant Google service why would they phone me, why not phone Mortgage Companies, Finance Companies, Real Estate Companies and Insurance Companies. These are the type of businesses that pay through the nose for PPC. They claim that their service is international so there is probably enough work out there from these verticals alone to keep their amateurish telesales team bumping their gums for many months probably years to come. Furthermore, in today's financial climate a lot of these companies have gone dark, cutting back on advertising and battening down the hatches until the current economic crisis blows over. If any of the companies in these sectors could buy industry terms of their choice and have it placed above Google's organic results for just £25 per month they would be kicking down the door of any company who offered Instant Google demanding their piece of the action, there would be no need for a telesales team.
Instant Google is Complete Horseshit
So what do I think of Instant Google so far? Based on the lengthy conversation and the facts (read inaccuracies and lies) presented so far, Complete horseshit! The true facts are plain and simple, Google does not sell keywords in this manor, nor do they condone or authorise third party companies to sell keywords in this manor on their behalf. There is absolutely no way any company can guarantee that you maintain a number 1 PPC ranking regardless of the term 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a complete month for a fixed price of £25. Some terms we could target would literally swallow up a £25 PPC budget in a single New York second!
PPC is a great way to bring targeted traffic to your site but do the due diligence, talk to a few companies first and ask hard questions. Always make sure to speak with the person who will be managing your account - ensure that he/she clearly understands your objectives and you are comfortable with the techniques and strategies that will be used to meet them. And forget about Instant Google.
